The next iteration of Pike Place Market’s street management plan will take effect October 1, 2026.
Seattle, WA — Pike Place Market Preservation and Development Authority (PDA) has launched an online resource hub for street access detailing updates to the street management plan, event closures, and frequently asked questions related to the use of Pike Place, the main street that runs through the Market.
The new webpage is designed to help visitors, residents, and businesses better understand how street operations change throughout the year and what to expect when visiting and accessing the Market through a centralized source of information.
“Pike Place Market is a true working market that supports hundreds of local businesses and residents, several social services providers, and millions of visitors each year,” said Rachel Ligtenberg, President & CEO of Pike Place Market PDA. “Because so many people rely on Pike Place in different ways, it is essential that information about street access is easy to find and understand. The new online resource hub provides a single location for clear, up-to-date information on vehicle access, event closures, and navigating the historic district.”
The launch of the webpage coincides with the start of the next phase of the street management plan taking effect on October 1, 2026. During the fall and winter months, vehicle access restrictions will be adjusted to reflect lower foot traffic while continuing to prioritize safety. Vehicle access will be limited during peak shopping times and special events. The current plan for October 2026-March 2027 follows the schedule below:
Monday – Thursday
- Open to vehicles and pedestrians
- Vehicles and pedestrians share the street, vehicles must yield to pedestrians.
- Vehicles may access the street at all hours.
Friday – Sunday (11 a.m. – 4 p.m.)
- Limited vehicle access to authorized vehicles only (deliveries, loading, ADA access, emergency vehicles, and pre-arranged customer pickups.)
- Market staff manages access at the intersection of Pike St. and 1st Ave.
- “Authorized vehicles only” signs at Pine St and Stewart St at the intersection with Pike Place remind drivers of limited access.
Special Event Closures
On high foot-traffic event days, Pike Place will be closed to vehicle traffic to create a more seamless and
enjoyable experience for visitors.
Scheduled closures include:
• October 23: The Night Shift, Día de los Muertos
• November 28: Magic in the Market
• December 6: Figgy Pudding
• February 13-14: Valentine’s Day Flower Sales
Visitor patterns at Pike Place Market change throughout the year. Summer brings significantly higher pedestrian volumes, while fall and winter typically see fewer visitors and different access needs. The seasonal street access approach allows the Market to improve safety during the busiest times, support access for residents, businesses, and deliveries, improve visitor experience, and adapt operations based on data and community feedback.
