What is the PIKE BOX CSA Program?
The Pike Place Market Preservation and Development Authority created the PIKE BOX CSA program in 2013 with the goals of helping local farmers grow their businesses, connecting Seattle workers and residents to local food sources, and providing fresh produce to anyone who needs it.
The PIKE BOX CSA program is a farm-to-customer program run by the Pike Place Market Farm Team. Market staff source fresh produce, protein, dairy, flowers, and more from farmers across Washington. Then, pack it all up for weekly pick-ups at Pike Place Market.
How does the PIKE BOX Program work?
- Sign up for a membership during the open window period.
- Our Farm Team works with our Washington Farmers and packs your box with their amazing produce!
- Pick up your PIKE BOX and any add-ons during the pickup time from Pike Place Market or three alternative pick up locations.
- Enjoy all your farm fresh goodies at home. Each Box comes with a weekly What’s Fresh sheet that includes – list of what is in your box, recipes to help you cook yummy dishes, a section to meet the farmer, preparation and storage information.
What is a Community Supported Agriculture program?
Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) is a partnership between farmers and members guaranteeing sales during uncertain times. PIKE BOX CSA members have the opportunity to support farmers by signing up for a season’s worth of fresh produce. This helps farmers, especially small family farmers, plan their crops for the year.
How does my PIKE BOX membership support Washington Farmers?
Your PIKE BOX membership helps support the development of farmers by opening them up to additional sales channels, connecting them with new customers, and allowing them to experiment with new crops and varieties. (Some of which will end up in members’ boxes and kitchens.)

Where do I pick up my PIKE BOX?
Where do I pick up my PIKE BOX?
Pick up for the Spring PIKE BOX will be every Wednesday at the MarketFront Pavilion in Pike Place Market from 3pm to 6pm. Click here to view the pick-up location on our interactive Market Map. You will also receive an email with instructions and what to expect in your shares.
For Summer 1 PIKE BOX and Summer 2 PIKE BOX, we are testing three alternative pick-up locations: First Hill, South Lake Union, and Renton. Click here for further details about pick up locations.
Where is the produce coming from?
Where is the produce coming from?
The produce comes from Pike Place Market farmers. Since we have farmers from all over the state of Washington, your basil may be from Fall City, while your tomatoes may be from Sunnyside. Pike Place Market farmers have to grow everything they bring to their tables at the Market. That means if you can’t grow it in Washington, you won’t see it in your PIKE BOX.
Is all of the produce organic?
Is all of the produce organic?
No. However, several of our farmers are certified organic, and a majority of the others grow to organic standards but are not certified, or use “no spray” techniques to manage their crops. Each week, your box will come with a “fresh sheet” write up explaining the growing practices of all farms included in that week’s box.
What will I get each week with the 9-week season PIKE BOX?
What will I get each week with the 9-week season PIKE BOX?
We have a projection for what will be in each week’s share; however, there are many variables involved with growing and harvesting each crop, and sometimes we will not be able to include an item that we had planned for. On Tuesday of each week, we will email a forecast of what will be in that week’s share, but that list is subject to change.
We will always try to include the following in each box: fruit, a few staples e.g. carrots, onions, garlic, potatoes, etc.), a leafy green, and other vegetables or herbs. Our goal is to provide a mix of familiar and loved crops as well as some new and exciting varieties. You will also receive a weekly “Fresh Sheet” that showcases recipes, storage tips, and easy preparation ideas to help make the most of your fruits and vegetables.
We try to offer two different share sizes:
The Full Share contains 7-8 produce items, at least two of which are fruit. This share feeds 1-2 people who frequently eat fresh produce during the summer and fall, or a household of 3 or more that eats a moderate amount of produce.
The Half Share contains 4 produce items, with usually one of these being fruit. This share feeds 1-2 people who eat a moderate amount of produce.
Can I substitute or change any of the items in my box?
Can I substitute or change any of the items in my box?
Members are not able to substitute or make changes to box contents. We try very hard to create shares that are versatile and appeal to people with different preferences. If there is a vegetable that you don’t enjoy, share it with your friend, neighbor, or fellow CSA member. We hope you’ll welcome the mix of staples and new, exciting vegetables and perhaps find a new favorite!
What will my 9-week PIKE BOX look like?
What will my 9-week PIKE BOX look like?
Each week’s selection of fresh produce will be packed into one or two compostable grocery bags with handles. To make traveling home with your produce more convenient, we recommend that you bring a reusable tote bag each week when you pick up your share because items can be heavy or unwieldy, and sometimes we will have extras to offer you!
I can’t pick up my box next week. What will happen to it?
I can’t pick up my box next week. What will happen to it?
If you can’t pick up your box during the designated time frame, we recommend that you ask a friend to pick it up for you or email us, and we will donate it for you to the Pike Market Food Bank.
Shares that are unaccounted for at the end of pickup will be delivered to the Pike Market Food Bank.
Can I cancel my share or get a refund?
Can I cancel my share or get a refund?
Cancellations are not available after the enrollment deadline. Refunds are not available after payment has been submitted.
