Weekend summer pilot invites visitors to enjoy the Market with drink in hand while supporting small businesses.

SEATTLE — Pike Place Market is inviting visitors to experience the Market in a new way this summer with the launch of the Sip & Savor pilot program, kicking off on Friday, June 5. Led by a group of Market businesses and with the support of the Pike Place Market Preservation and Development Authority (PDA), the pilot allows guests to purchase alcoholic beverages from participating vendors and enjoy them while exploring the Market.

The program is designed to support small businesses while creating new opportunities for visitors to linger, shop, and dine throughout the nine-acre historic district.

“At a time when our small businesses are facing unprecedented challenges, the PDA is committed to supporting the economic vitality of our independent eateries, shops, farmers and craftspeople,” said Rachel Ligtenberg, President and CEO of the Pike Place Market PDA. “We built this program to encourage locals to return to the Market, spend more time here, and support the small businesses that are the heart of our community.”

The Sip & Savor pilot will run Fridays through Sundays, from noon to 5 pm, through Labor Day weekend. Guests who choose to participate will be IDed and receive a wristband. MAST-certified staff will provide roaming enforcement to ensure responsible participation, and all beverages will be served in designated cups. Clear signage throughout the Market will identify approved consumption areas.

The pilot launches alongside the return of expanded outdoor seating at Pike Place Market. Visitors can enjoy food and beverages from Market vendors at 50 additional picnic tables installed along Pike Place and the MarketFront for the summer season.

The program follows the passage of House Bill 1515, which permits licensed businesses to extend alcohol service into approved public spaces with local authorization. Participating businesses must hold an existing license for indoor dining or production.

The program will coincide with full closures of Pike Place to vehicle traffic, supporting a safer and more walkable environment.

Currently, these Market businesses are participating in the pilot:

  • Alibi Room
  • Can Can Culinary Cabaret
