SUMMARY:Meet Me @HistoryLink: Zine Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Wednesday, February 11\n5:30 p.m. – 7 p.m.\nDesign, create, and fold a zine at HistoryLink headquarters, incorporating stories from Washington state’s history and adding your own spin.\nWhat’s a zine?\nZines are homemade publications usually created for creative self-expression rather than profit. In this workshop, you will use stories from Washington state history to design, create, duplicate, and fold your own mini-zine from a single sheet of 8.5 x 11 paper.\nWhat should I bring?\nHistoryLink will provide pre-printed articles and images (click to explore) to incorporate into your zine, but feel free to explore HistoryLink.org ahead of time to choose your own topic! Make a zine about a historic building (click to explore), a Washington town (click to explore), a true crime story (click to explore), or anything that piques your interest.\nAbout our host\nKelsey Smith (she/they) is a librarian, freelance researcher/writer, artist, and community organizer. Kelsey is the director of Community Print, a 25-year-old community letterpress and print studio that provides instruction and access to modern and historic printing and publishing equipment. Kelsey co-founded the annual Olympia Zine Fest and worked for the Timberland Regional Library system for 15 years, during which she established the library system’s first zine collection. In 2022, Kelsey co-founded the Olympia Music History Project, a project to document and make public the music history of Olympia, Washington through oral history interviews, research, images, and ephemera.\n
