Xai and Kher Cha started Xai Cha’s Farm in 1995 on a 2-acre piece of land in Kent, Washington. This was a dream come true for the couple who immigrated to Seattle two decades prior as refugees from the war-torn country of Laos.
At first, Xai Cha managed and operated the farm while Kher worked outside the farm. But quickly, the farm took off, and Kher joined his wife full time!
Their daughter Mary, who was 12 at the time, recalls her parents’ dream. “For as long as I can remember, we always grew vegetables and herbs somewhere in our yard. [My parents] had always heard how lucrative farming and selling at Pike Place is, and dreamed of starting up their own farm.”
Xai Cha Farm is now 20 acres and located in Snohomish, Washington, about 40 miles from the Market. You can find them on the farm tables in the Market’s main arcade.
