Our History

Our story begins in 1905 when John V. Holmquist made his way from Finland to help his father clear wilderness areas for farming in Mt. Vernon, WA. On Independence Day of 1909, with vision and keen foresight, John V. Holmquist settled on his own heavily timbered acreage at Judson Lake.

Over the course of time, a productive farm developed; raising crops of hay, oats, peas, beans, potatoes, and dairying. During the 1920s, taking advantage of the rich soil and mild weather of the Northwest, the first hazelnut orchard was planted.

John V. Holmquist was deeply interested in the welfare of the community and was known for his contributions. We continue to honor John Victor and his mission to build relationships within the community, have strong industrial habits, and continue to be a part of local culture. With many generations of hard work and innovative thinking, we are pleased to offer you the highest quality hazelnuts!
