Day of Remembrance: A Cultural Commemoration
Sunday, February 15, 2026
11:00am – 4:00pm
You’re invited to an afternoon of connection, learning, and reflection as we honor the legacy of Japanese American farmers and businesses at Pike Place Market and recognize the devastating impact of Executive Order 9066, which led to the unjust incarceration of 120,000 Japanese Americans during World War II.
From 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, February 15, guests of all ages are welcome to explore how the order affected Japanese American farmers at Pike Place Market and to reflect on the lasting legacy that remains visible in the Market community today.
In the Economy Atrium, participate in the folding of 1,000 tsuru paper cranes, engage with educational coloring activities, view historically accurate produce displays, and experience a special performance by traditional Japanese koto musicians. This interactive experience offers meaningful opportunities to learn, reflect, and connect.
On Thursday, February 19, we will gather for a brief ceremony of remembrance and reflection. At 11 a.m., please join us beneath the “Song of the Earth” mural for a blessing, the display of more than 1,000 tsuru paper cranes, and light refreshments.
All are welcome to take part in this important community commemoration.
