About Us

It began in 1983, when Le Panier opened its bakery doors onto Pike Place to bring a taste of France to Seattle for all to share.

Kristi Drake, owner and Christian Verbrugghe, production manager were there on opening day. Kristi was out front with customers and Christian was one of those original 7 bakers. The oldest of traditional recipes, classic techniques and pure flavors are at the base of all they do. They are bakers, baristas, and people who strive to make something simply delightful. It’s what brings people together.

The bakers are lead by Victoria whose background includes pastry production at the esteemed Pierre Hermé in Paris. Holding to the classic selection of products that bring together French baking techniques and local, seasonal ingredients, she brings some new Baker’s Play to the cases as well. The retail team is lead by Kate who lives and breathes hospitality. She and her staff in front create a warm and welcoming atmosphere, greeting regular customers with their favorites, and inviting them to try something new that the bakers have dreamed up.

Rain or shine, their doors are open to share the aromas of fresh baked goods. Come and enjoy a croissant or two with friends, family, or visitors and take in the life of Pike Place Market.
