About Us

Pike Place Market’s Aditi Chai is the original authentic Masala Chai company. Founded in 2018 using a hundred-year-old multi-generational family recipe, we handcraft small batches of authentic Indian masala chai. Our chai uses carefully selected estate-grown Assamese black tea leaves, locally grown farm fresh organic lemongrass, ginger tubers, and fresh mint. We grind whole spices sourced from farmer-centric cooperatives. The result is an unmatched chai with multiple layers of flavors and experience. The tea is spice-filled, yet not spicy; sweetened though not sweet. We invite you to stop by when visiting Pike Place Market and “chai some”!

Aditi Chai opened their first retail shop at Pike Place Market in the summer of 2023. Stop by Aditi Chai in the Corner Market building for a hot cup of authentic Indian chai and pick up original or turmeric tea concentrate to enjoy at home!

How Aditi Chai is Made

Aditi Chai’s prized chai tea is blended from leaves sourced from the most exclusive Assam tea gardens in India. Their whole spices are selected with the assistance of a distribution cooperative representing Indian growers.

These spices are ground just as needed to allow maximum flavor and fragrance expression. Then slowly steep these spices with fresh herbs and ginger root sourced in local markets to build complexity before adding the tea.

'Authentic' is an important word at Aditi Chai. We present and share a genuine chai that is an honest expression of what we prefer to drink at home, and what our family has enjoyed for decades. While all of India may not drink this recipe on a daily basis, Aditi Chai could readily be served on any Indian street corner and in the Indian Prime Minister's or American President's home with equally confident standing.
