Folio Presents: Shaping Democracy: Lessons from Civil Rights Pioneers
As America marks 250 years, this conversation invites you to explore essential biographies and memoirs tracing the lives of the men and women whose struggles and activism have shaped American democracy. This conversation is part of Folio’s participation in the American Conversation Project, a national initiative led by the National Conference on Citizenship in partnership with Cortico.
Guided by a curated reading list, we invite you to read one book or several from the list, then join us in person at Folio or online via Zoom to discuss how the civil rights battles of the past continue to shape democracy today and what lessons they can teach and demand of us as citizens.
Conversations are recorded and contribute to a national collection of community voices gathered from libraries across the country during this milestone year. Join us and millions of Americans participating in the American Conversation Project to explore how understanding our past can shape a more just and united future.Â
