Folio Presents: Fulton Street Chamber Players Spring Concert
Tuesday, April 28
Folio: The Seattle Athenaeum welcomes back the Seattle-based Fulton Street Chamber Players, anchored by Walter Gray (cello) and Rachel Swerdlow (viola), with Artur Girsky (Violin), Natasha Bazhanov (violin), and Katie Liu (Viola) for their Spring 2026 concert.
Enjoy a performance of Grieg’s String Quartet in G minor, Op. 27 and Brahms’s String Quintet in G Major, Op. 111 in an intimate concert-in-the-round setting, where the audience surrounds the musicians. Grieg’s passionate and folk-inflected quartet, his only work in the genre, opens with stormy intensity before yielding to tender lyricism. After intermission, the ensemble expands to five players for Brahms’s radiant final chamber work, a luminous piece from 1890 enriched by the warmth of a second viola, featuring Hungarian-inflected rhythms and the serene mastery of the composer’s late style.
Join us for a wine reception after the performance to conclude the evening.
