About Us
Michael Staum of Live Edge Leathers handcrafts custom leatherwork. His line of one-of-a-kind accessories, handbags, shop aprons, and sculpted leather trays is artistically designed, unique, and functional. Perfect for decorating your home or as a gift for that deserving someone.
Michael Staum is a native of New Jersey transplanted to the Pacific Northwest by way of the U.S. Navy. The sheer beauty he found in the landscape and people took hold of his heart and soul. Staum has made this upper-left coastal corner of the country his home since the early 1980s.
“There is no place I’d rather be creating in than the PNW,” says Staum.
After living in a few locations in Washington State (including a long period in downtown Seattle), Staum settled in Anacortes on Fidalgo Island in 1998.
In 2020, Staum had a major cervical neck surgery to repair three vertebrae that had auto-fused together. After the surgery, slow nerve regeneration, linked to fine motor skills, brought his life as a fine art artist and a four-decade career in custom tattooing to a halt. Desperately seeking an outlet for his creativity, Staum turned to leatherwork. Using a laser engraver and his vast art catalog, Staum has created Live Edge Leathers, bringing a unique fusion of art and utility to his fine leather creations.
