Pasta Casalinga Brings Authentic Handmade Pasta to Pike Place Market

Posted March 23, 2018

Visitors to the historic Pike Place Market now have the opportunity to experience delicious traditional Italian handmade pasta dishes influenced by local Northwest flavors at Pasta Casalinga, which opened March 20, 2018 in the Market’s Atrium.

With a shared passion for building community through great food and a welcoming environment, Michela Tartaglia and Nathan Gottlieb are bringing their respective Italian and Pacific Northwest roots together to create rustic, home-style pasta dishes in their warm and cozy market “kitchen.”

Michela, born and raised in Turin, Italy, spent summers on her grandmother’s olive farm in the remote area of Irpinia, inland from Naples. Her passion for cooking was acquired through years of observing her mother, Gina, and grandmothers, Rosa and Michela, lovingly prepare meals for their family and neighbors. Influenced by her upbringing, Michela naturally embraces the philosophy "we are what we eat" and enjoys the challenge of creating unique pasta dishes with fresh, local ingredients.

A Northwest native, Nathan grew up enjoying fishing, gathering and gardening with his family and friends. Through his experiences he acquired a passion for fresh local foods being grown and caught in our neighboring farms and waters. As much as possible, he plans to source ingredients from his neighbors at the Market. Nathan looks forward to sharing his joy of cooking with the Seattle community and visitors to the Pike Place Market.

Pasta Casalinga offers three types of authentic pasta dishes – each influenced by the ocean, the farm or the garden - taking advantage of seasonally available ingredients. Pasta selections will change frequently and may feature Fusilli with wild salmon, zucchini and shallots; Tortiglioni with lamb ragu’ and juniper berries; and Schiaffoni with kale, capers and pecorino. Menu offerings will also include a small selection of salads and side dishes, and beverages, including beer and wine, to be consumed on site.

Open 11 a.m. - 6 p.m., Tuesday - Sunday at 93 Pike Street, Suite 201
